Top 5 Social Media Management Tools, Compared on Price and Limits

October 2, 2026 · Loudibly

Most "top 5" lists give you five logos and five paragraphs of adjectives. What you actually need before signing up is harder to find: what each tool costs at the entry level, what that entry level really includes, and what happens to the bill once you add accounts. This page puts those numbers side by side.

We've already sorted these tools by the one job each is best at and by the situation you're in. This one is the numbers-only version, so you can do the math for your own setup.

Buffer: the cheapest way to schedule a few channels

Buffer is the only tool here with a free plan that covers more than one company's platforms: up to three channels with 10 scheduled posts each. Paid plans are priced per channel, so the bill grows in small steps. Four channels on Essentials comes to $20 a month. It connects to 12 platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Business Profile and Bluesky.

The trade-off is the same as every scheduler: Buffer publishes what you give it. Writing and adapting each post is still your job.

Hootsuite: built for teams with many accounts

Hootsuite starts at $99 a month billed annually for up to 10 social accounts, and its higher plans remove the account cap. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. That price makes sense when several people share the work and someone needs reports. For one owner running three accounts, it costs more than six times the $15 a month those three channels cost on Buffer Essentials.

Sprout Social: reporting first, priced per person

Sprout Social charges per seat: $79 a month per user on the annual Essentials plan, or $99 billed monthly, with five social profiles. The per-seat model is the one to watch. A team of three on Essentials pays for three seats before connecting a single extra profile. In exchange you get the deepest reporting of the five, plus a 30-day trial, the longest here.

Later: Instagram-style planning with post caps

Later Starter costs $25 a month, or $18.75 a month billed annually, for one user and one social set of eight profiles. The number to notice is the cap of 30 scheduled posts per profile on Starter; the Growth plan raises it to 180 and Scale removes it. Its visual planner is the reason to choose it, which matters most when your feed's look is part of your brand.

Meta Business Suite: free, but only for Meta

Meta Business Suite costs nothing and handles Facebook and Instagram well, including scheduling and shared access for your team. It stops at Meta's borders, though. TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube need another tool, which is why many businesses use it alongside a scheduler rather than instead of one. We cover that split in managing accounts in one place.

What happens to the bill as you grow

Entry prices are the number every list quotes, but the pricing model decides what you pay a year from now. The five tools grow in four different ways.

Per channel (Buffer). Every account you connect adds to the bill. Three channels on Essentials cost $15 a month; eight cost $40. Buffer says channels above 10 are priced lower per channel, so the curve flattens for larger setups. Growth is gradual and predictable, which suits a business adding one platform at a time.

Flat tiers (Hootsuite). Standard covers up to 10 accounts at $99 a month billed annually, and Professional removes the account cap at $199. You pay the same whether you connect two accounts or ten, so the price only makes sense once you're close to the limit.

Per person (Sprout Social). Each seat costs the plan price. A team of three on annual Essentials pays $237 a month before anything else changes, and Essentials stops at five profiles. Adding people raises the bill faster than adding accounts.

Bundles with post caps (Later). Starter includes eight profiles, so accounts aren't the constraint; volume is. At 30 scheduled posts per profile, a business posting daily on one channel hits the Starter cap. Growth, at $50 a month or $37.50 billed annually, raises it to 180 posts per profile and adds a second user.

Meta Business Suite stays at $0 at any size, but only for Facebook and Instagram.

Free plan or free trial: use them differently

A free plan and a free trial look similar on a pricing page and work very differently. Buffer's free plan and Meta Business Suite have no end date, so you can run them for months and upgrade only when a real limit gets in the way. That makes them the low-risk way to find out how much scheduling you actually do.

Trials have a clock: 14 days for Hootsuite and Later, 30 for Sprout Social. To get a real answer from one, start it in a normal posting week, connect the accounts you'd actually use and schedule your real posts, not test content. Put the end date in your calendar and decide a few days before it, while you still remember what the first week was like.

What the price table leaves out

Every number above buys you scheduling and publishing. None of them buys the hours spent writing captions, resizing images and adapting each post for each platform. If that's where your week goes, a cheaper scheduler won't fix it, a point we work through in our cost framework for tools versus services.

Loudibly prices that work in. You send a voice note, photos or a rough draft over WhatsApp, approve the adapted posts in the same chat, and they publish to your connected platforms. At beta pricing, Basic is $99 a month for up to 15 posts on two platforms, and Pro is $249 a month for up to 30 posts on all 15 supported platforms. Full details are on the pricing section.

How to read this table for your own setup

Count three things: your accounts, the people who need a login and the hours you spend writing each week. Few accounts and one person: start with Buffer's free plan or Meta Business Suite and upgrade only when you hit a limit. Several people and reports to deliver: compare Hootsuite's flat price against Sprout's per-seat total. Writing hours are the real cost: compare those hours against a service instead of a scheduler.

Skip the scheduler math. Send raw content, approve, done.
